Careers for Psychology Graduates at HireDesigners
You studied human behaviour for three years. Here is where it finally pays you back.
If you are a final year postgraduate student, or have just completed your master’s in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, or organisational behaviour, this page has been written for you. Read it slowly. It is long because it is honest, and because the decision you make in your first year out of college will shape the next ten.
At HireDesigners, we hire psychology graduates every single year, across four full time roles. We do this not as a gesture, not as a diversity line on a slide, but because the work we do depends on the exact skills your degree trained you in. The pages that follow explain what those roles are, who you will sit with, what you will earn, where you will grow, and why we believe this is one of the most useful first jobs a psychology postgraduate can take in India today.
Why this page is written for psychology students
Most of what HireDesigners does, every working day, is conversation. Conversations with founders trying to hire their first creative head. Conversations with senior designers weighing offers and personal dilemmas in the same breath. Conversations with hiring managers, parents, partners, and operations leads who all sit on the edge of every decision. Our work begins where listening begins.
Your degree trained you to listen without interrupting. To observe without judging. To ask the second question instead of pitching the first answer. To notice the silence between two sentences and understand that the silence is the data. These are not soft skills. These are the hardest skills to teach a fresh graduate, and you already have them.
So we made a decision a few years ago. We would stop treating psychology graduates as an afterthought and start treating them as the first preference for every role that touches another human being. That decision is what this page is about.
What HireDesigners actually does
HireDesigners is India’s largest accountability focused design recruitment agency. We have a vetted network of over three hundred and fifty thousand designers across more than fifty creative disciplines. We work with startups, growth stage companies, and Fortune listed enterprises to place full time creative talent into roles that shape how brands look, feel, and communicate.
We are not a job portal. We are a long term design hiring partner. Our recruiters are designers who turned recruiters, which is why our placements hold. Our retention rate sits at ninety seven point three percent and our replacement rate at two point seven percent. Every candidate we send is evaluated through a proprietary three step framework we call 3S, covering Skill, Style, and Sync, the last of which is essentially a behavioural and cultural fit assessment. You will hear more about Sync in the role descriptions ahead.
HireDesigners was co founded in 2023 under the legal entity Narangi, by Prashant Gupta and Akshat Raghava. Prashant also sits on the National Committee on Design Innovation and Design Policy at the Confederation of Indian Industry, and Akshat is a four time I Design Award winner and a RISD alumnus. We share office space in Noida with Beryl Agency, our sister branding studio, which means you will be working alongside both recruiters and designers, every single day.
Corporate careers and jobs for psychology graduates at HireDesigners
We hire psychology postgraduates into four full time roles. Each role is described below in plain language. The work, the lens, the week, the growth. Pick the one that fits the way you think.
Client Acquisition Manager
This is the most psychology native role we offer. The Client Acquisition Manager is the first human voice a prospective client hears when they reach out to HireDesigners. Every lead that comes to you is warm. Already curious. Already raising their hand. There is no cold calling. There are no rejection targets. The work is not pitching. The work is understanding.
Your day looks like a series of conversations. A founder writes in asking for help hiring a head of design. You take that call. You ask the questions a trained listener asks, the ones that uncover what they actually need, not what they think they want. You decode hesitation in three sentences. You build trust in five minutes. You guide the conversation toward a decision, not by pushing, but by helping them see clearly. That is applied behavioural science, with real people, real stakes, real outcomes, every working day.
You also become the face of HireDesigners to the design community. Award winning creative directors, studio founders, and senior designers drop by our Noida office to interact, to consult, to refer talent. You will meet them. They will remember you. Few first jobs in India put a twenty three year old in a room with the people shaping how the country looks, eats, shops, and scrolls. This one does.
Clinical and counselling psychology graduates tend to do exceptionally well in this role because the listening training transfers directly. Organisational behaviour graduates tend to bring a slightly sharper read on business intent. Both succeed. The role is for anyone who finds humans more interesting than spreadsheets.
Recruiter
The Recruiter role at HireDesigners is human assessment at scale. You are not coordinating calls or forwarding resumes. You are evaluating creative professionals on three dimensions, Skill, Style, and Sync, and the last one is where your training becomes irreplaceable.
Sync is our internal language for behavioural and cultural fit. Will this designer thrive at this specific company, with this specific founder, in this specific team. The question sounds simple. Answering it accurately, in a thirty minute conversation, with a candidate you have never met, is one of the hardest things in our industry. It is also exactly what a clinical or counselling psychology postgraduate has been trained to do. Structured interviewing, behavioural observation, pattern recognition across conversations, holding space without leading the witness. Every tool you learned in your master’s, you will use here.
You will work alongside designers who turned recruiters, which means your psychology lens sits next to their craft lens, and together you make a placement decision that holds for years. Our recruiters are not call centre coordinators. They are senior people whose judgement is trusted by Fortune listed clients.
A typical week involves twelve to twenty candidate conversations, a handful of client briefings, structured profile assessments, and team reviews where every recruiter walks through their hardest case of the week. You will learn more about human assessment in your first six months at HireDesigners than in most clinical practice settings, simply because of the volume and variety.
Marketing
Marketing at HireDesigners is the psychology of perception and persuasion, applied to a buyer who is sceptical by default. Founders and hiring managers do not trust agencies easily. Our job is to earn that trust before the first conversation, through writing, design, content, and presence. That is your work.
Organisational behaviour postgraduates tend to gravitate naturally to this role because the lens is closer to consumer behaviour and applied social psychology. You will work on long form content that explains why design hiring fails most companies, on case studies that translate placement outcomes into stories a founder can feel, on positioning campaigns that move a buyer from awareness to consideration to inquiry. You will also work closely with our design team at Beryl Agency, which means your ideas get translated into visual work that actually moves the needle.
Clinical and counselling psychology graduates also do well here, particularly in content writing and brand voice work, because the empathy required to write for a stressed founder is not unlike the empathy required to sit with a client in a therapy room. You will not need a marketing background. You will need a working brain, a clean writing voice, and the patience to study a buyer until you can predict their next thought.
Admin and Operations
This role is for graduates who prefer structure, calm, systems, and quiet coordination over client facing intensity. It is the role that holds the company together, and we are deliberately honest about its weight. Without strong operations, our recruiters cannot place, our marketing cannot ship, and our clients cannot trust the agency.
Counselling psychology graduates in particular bring something invaluable to this role. The empathy and patience you developed in your training translate directly into managing internal teams, coordinating across recruiters and designers, holding space for colleagues under pressure, and being the steady centre of a busy office. You will own scheduling, vendor coordination, internal communication, office management, and a growing set of process responsibilities as you settle in.
This is not a back office role. You will sit on the same floor as the founders. You will be in every important conversation about how the company runs. The growth path from here leads into operations management and, for those interested, into people and culture leadership, which is where psychology training becomes a long term differentiator.
Psychology graduates already working with us
You will not be the first. That matters, and we want to say it plainly.
We already have clinical, counselling, and organisational behaviour psychology graduates on the HireDesigners team. They are not isolated. They have peers who think like them, trained like them, talk like them. They sit in conversations where someone else in the room understands the difference between empathy and sympathy without having to explain it. They have colleagues who know what a Rorschach is, what the DSM means, what an OB framework looks like in a real corporate setting.
This is the single most important reassurance we can offer a fresher, and to any parent reading over their shoulder. When you walk in on your first day, someone has already walked your path. They will guide you, mentor you, and tell you honestly what the first six months feel like.
Universities and colleges we have hired from
HireDesigners hires on merit and lens, not pedigree. That said, we have built a wide pool of conversations and applications across psychology departments in India, and we want to name a few openly, because parents and students often ask.
We have spoken with, interviewed, or hired postgraduates from Delhi University and its constituent colleges including Lady Shri Ram College, Jesus and Mary College, and Daulat Ram College, as well as Ambedkar University Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Amity University at Noida. Outside Delhi, we have engaged with students from Christ University in Bangalore, Mount Carmel College in Bangalore, Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai, Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce in Pune, Fergusson College in Pune, Banaras Hindu University, the University of Hyderabad, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and Pondicherry University.
The list is not a hierarchy. It is a sample. We have hired postgraduates from less prominent state universities who outperformed their tier one peers, and we have politely passed on candidates from celebrated institutions whose lens did not fit our work. Applications are equally welcome from any recognised university across India, including distance learning programmes from accredited institutions like IGNOU, provided the postgraduate degree is recognised by the University Grants Commission.
The environment you will walk into
Our office is in Noida, on a single floor that we share with Beryl Agency, our sister branding studio. There are no cabins. There are no separate rooms for founders. Prashant sits at a desk in the open floor, and so does every recruiter, designer, marketer, and operations team member. Conversations happen across desks, not through email chains.
The pantry is genuinely used. Tea and coffee run all day. Lunch is often shared. There is a quiet corner for calls that need privacy and a meeting room for client conversations, but the default is open, daytime, structured but warm. We do not run late nights. We do not run on weekends. The work is paced for people who plan to be in this industry for the next twenty years, not the next twenty months.
The office is professional, safe, and welcoming for women. Hours are predictable. There is no culture of staying back to perform busyness. When the work is done, the working day is done. We take this seriously because a fresher walking into their first job deserves an environment that respects their time and their family’s peace of mind.
There is no hierarchy in how people speak to each other. A first year recruiter can disagree with the founder in a Monday review, and the disagreement will be heard on merit. We do not have a culture of titles. We have a culture of conversations.
Alternative career paths for clinical and counselling psychology graduates
Most psychology postgraduates in India consider three or four paths after their master’s degree. Clinical practice. Further academic study. A counselling role at a school or NGO. A generic corporate job through campus placement that has nothing to do with their degree.
Each of these paths has merit, and we respect the people who take them. We are not asking you to abandon them. We are asking you to consider that there is a fifth path that very few people in India have mapped clearly. A corporate role where your degree is the qualification, not a curiosity. Where the work is built on your training, not parallel to it. Where the title on your business card may not say psychologist, but the work you do every day is closer to applied psychology than most clinical practice settings allow for a fresher.
If you are weighing options, weigh this one alongside the others. There is no rush. The path will exist next year too. But if applied behavioural science in a fast paced commercial environment sounds like something you want to try in your twenties, this is one of the few places in India set up to absorb you well.
Who this role is not for
We owe you honesty here, because the cost of joining a wrong fit job in your first year is high.
This is not for graduates who want a fully predictable nine to five with zero stretch. The hours are steady, but the work is intellectually demanding and the cases vary every week. This is not for those uncomfortable with ambiguity. Recruitment, client acquisition, and marketing all involve decisions made with incomplete information. This is not for those who see psychology as just a degree, and not as a lens through which they read the world. The graduates who thrive at HireDesigners are the ones who, even off duty, find themselves analysing the conversation they just overheard at the next table.
If any of that sounds like the opposite of what you want, take a different path with our blessings. If it sounds like home, keep reading.
Your growth path in five years
Year one is a learning year. You will be in conversations, observing, contributing, taking ownership of small pieces of the work. Compensation is fixed. We want you to focus on your craft, not on chasing numbers.
Year two is when incentives begin. By this point you will have your own portfolio of clients or candidates or campaigns, and your compensation will start reflecting the outcomes you drive. Annual reviews happen formally once a year, with informal feedback running through the year.
From year two, leadership opportunities open up. We do not have a culture of waiting five years to be heard. If you have shown judgement, you will be trusted with judgement calls. Recruiters move into senior recruiter and team lead roles. Client Acquisition Managers grow into client strategy and partnership leads. Marketing graduates grow into brand and content leads. Operations graduates grow into people and culture leads and operations heads.
By year five, the psychology postgraduates who join us today will be sitting in senior decision making roles inside the company. That is not a promise written for a careers page. It is the actual structure of how HireDesigners is being built.
Annual hiring window and how the process works
HireDesigners opens applications for fresh psychology postgraduates every year, in line with the standard postgraduate exam and placement calendar in India. The bulk of our offers are made between April and August, though we accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the year.
The process is built to respect your training, not to imitate a campus aptitude test. There are no GMAT style questions. There are no riddles. There is no group discussion theatre.
You apply with a resume and a short note about why you are writing in. We respond within a week. The first round is a thirty minute conversation with a member of our team, often a psychology postgraduate who joined us in a previous year. The second round is a short take home assignment that mirrors a real situation we faced last quarter. The final round is a longer conversation with Prashant or a senior team member, where we talk about your training, your reading, and your sense of yourself. If the fit is right on both sides, we send an offer within two weeks of the final conversation.
Salary and compensation
Starting compensation for a fresh psychology postgraduate at HireDesigners is three lakh and twenty five thousand rupees per annum, paid in full as in hand salary with no deductions. We want to be specific about what that means in practice.
This figure translates, in effective in hand terms, to roughly what a four lakh per annum corporate offer would pay you after standard deductions like provident fund, professional tax, and the rest. We have structured it this way deliberately. You take home the full amount every month.
From year two, performance linked incentives begin, layered on top of your fixed compensation. Annual reviews happen once a year and feed directly into both salary growth and role progression. Leadership opportunities, as covered earlier, open up from year two onwards for those who show the judgement to take them on.
Psychologists in HR, the community we are building
Beyond the four roles, we run a small WhatsApp community called Psychologists in HR. It is not a job board. It is a slow, quiet space for psychology postgraduates working in or curious about people focused business roles. Updates on openings at HireDesigners go out here first. Conversations on applied psychology in business happen here. Senior psychology graduates already working in the industry share thoughts, papers, and informal mentorship for those just starting out.
Whether or not you eventually apply to HireDesigners, the community itself is worth being part of. Many of our future hires will come from this group. Many of the strongest peer relationships in this industry will be built inside it. The link to join is shared with anyone who writes in to us, and we keep the community small and moderated by design.
How to apply
Write to us at careers at hiredesigners dot in with a short note explaining which of the four roles interests you and why. Attach your resume. If you have a writing sample, a published thesis abstract, or any piece of work that reflects your thinking, include it. If you do not, that is fine too. We will respond within one week.
Please do not send generic cover letters. We read every application personally. A three paragraph note in your own voice will tell us more than three pages of templated text.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply if I do not have any corporate experience?
Yes. The roles described on this page are designed for freshers. We do not expect prior corporate experience. We expect a strong postgraduate training and a willingness to learn how that training translates into commercial work.
Do you hire from distance learning psychology programmes?
Yes, provided the postgraduate degree is from a recognised institution accredited by the University Grants Commission. IGNOU and similar accredited distance programmes are welcome. The quality of your training and the clarity of your thinking matter more than the mode of study.
How is the Client Acquisition Manager role different from a standard HR role?
Standard HR roles in most companies focus on payroll, policy, compliance, and internal employee relations. The Client Acquisition Manager role at HireDesigners is external facing, focused on conversations with potential clients, intent reading, trust building, and lead nurturing. The skill set is closer to applied behavioural science than to administrative HR. There is no overlap with payroll or compliance work.
What is the starting salary for a psychology graduate at HireDesigners?
The starting salary for a fresh postgraduate is three lakh and twenty five thousand rupees per annum, paid in full as in hand salary with no deductions. In effective in hand terms, this is equivalent to roughly four lakh per annum in a standard corporate offer after deductions. Incentives begin from year two, layered on top of fixed compensation.
Will I be working with other psychology graduates?
Yes. We already have clinical, counselling, and organisational behaviour psychology graduates on the team. New joiners are paired with a peer from their own academic background during their first few months, which makes the transition into commercial work significantly easier.
Do I need to know anything about design or recruitment before applying?
No. We will teach you everything you need to know about design hiring on the job. What we cannot teach in a reasonable timeframe is the listening, observation, and human assessment training that your postgraduate degree has already given you. Bring that. The rest follows.
Where is the office located and what are the working hours?
Our office is in Noida, easily accessible from Delhi, Ghaziabad, and other parts of the National Capital Region. Working hours are standard daytime hours, five days a week. We do not run late nights or weekends as a culture.
A short note from the founder
I built HireDesigners because the design hiring industry in India was broken in a very specific way. Companies were hiring designers like they were hiring sales executives, and it was failing them every time. The fix was not a better algorithm. The fix was a slower, more human conversation, run by people who understood other people.
That is why we hire psychology postgraduates. Not because the degree looks good on a slide, but because every working day at HireDesigners turns out to be a quiet test of the exact skills your master’s trained you in.
If any of what you have read here sounds like a place you would want to spend your first few working years, write to us. We read every application personally, and we respond honestly, even when the answer is not yes. There is no rush. The page will be here next year, and the year after that. The hiring window opens every spring, like the rest of the academic calendar in this country.
Welcome, in advance, to whoever finds their way to this page and decides to write in. We are looking forward to meeting you.
